How to Make Shutki Shira

The perfect cured fish recipe to have with a plain bowl of rice.


2 cups water

1 tsp salt

4-5 shutki

½ cup water

1 large onion paste

2 tbsp garlic paste

2 tsp red chili

1 tsp turmeric

1 tsp salt

6-7 green chilies

4-5 fish pieces

2 potatoes

200 gm beans

1 large eggplant

250 gm spinach

1 ½ cups water

1 scotch bonnet


1. Place shutki in salt water and bring to a boil for 1 minute

2. Transfer out the shutki and set the dried fish broth aside

3. Add clear water to the hot pan along with onion paste, garlic paste, red chili, turmeric, and salt to taste

4. Add green chilies, fish pieces of desired type, and mix well

5. Pour a splash of water and add potatoes, beans, eggplants, and spinach

6. Pour more water over and cover with lid to cook for 6-7 minutes on high heat

7. Remove lid and pour over the reserved dried fish broth

8. Add water as needed

9. Add a scotch bonnet

10. Cover with lid and cook on high heat until potatoes are soft

11. Best served with a bowl of jasmine rice

12. Ready to enjoy!
