Gola Khichuri


We call it best rainy day comfort food. You can pretty much have it by itself or a dim bhaji with (ghee:) Hope you all will like this simple presentation of our favorite Norom Khichuri.


Ingredients

Rice 1 cup

Masoor Dal (Red lentils) 1/2 cup

Cooking oil 3 tbsp

Cumin seeds 1 tbsp

Cinnamon 2 sticks

Whole black pepper 7-8 pcs

Clove 2 pcs

Cardamom 3 pcs

Bay leaf 1 pc

Dry red chilli 4 pcs

Onion sliced 1/2 cup

Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp

Garlic 1/2 tsp

Ginger 1/2 tsp

Water 7 cups

Green chilli 3 pcs

Coriander leaves 1/4 cup

Ghee 1 tsp


Preparation

  • Soak rice for 30 mins.

  • Soak daal for 30 mins

Cooking Directions

  • Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.

  • Add raw cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom pods, whole black pepper, dry red chilli and bay leaf. Saute for couple minutes stirring continuously.

  • Add sliced onions and saute until they turn light brown.

  • Add soaked rice and soaked daal, stir and mix well with the spices. Add turmeric powder, garlic paste and ginger paste. Saute for 5 mins over medium heat.

  • Add water and cook over medium-high heat until the rice and daal level up to the surface of the water. Lower the heat to low-medium and cook until the rice and daal has soften. Keep checking the water while the khichuri cooks and add more if it begins to dry.

  • Once done, add green chilli, coriander leaves and add the ghee on top.
