We call it best rainy day comfort food. You can pretty much have it by itself or a dim bhaji with (ghee:) Hope you all will like this simple presentation of our favorite Norom Khichuri.
Ingredients
Rice 1 cup
Masoor Dal (Red lentils) 1/2 cup
Cooking oil 3 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
Cinnamon 2 sticks
Whole black pepper 7-8 pcs
Clove 2 pcs
Cardamom 3 pcs
Bay leaf 1 pc
Dry red chilli 4 pcs
Onion sliced 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Garlic 1/2 tsp
Ginger 1/2 tsp
Water 7 cups
Green chilli 3 pcs
Coriander leaves 1/4 cup
Ghee 1 tsp
Preparation
Soak rice for 30 mins.
Soak daal for 30 mins
Cooking Directions
Heat 3 tbsp of oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
Add raw cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom pods, whole black pepper, dry red chilli and bay leaf. Saute for couple minutes stirring continuously.
Add sliced onions and saute until they turn light brown.
Add soaked rice and soaked daal, stir and mix well with the spices. Add turmeric powder, garlic paste and ginger paste. Saute for 5 mins over medium heat.
Add water and cook over medium-high heat until the rice and daal level up to the surface of the water. Lower the heat to low-medium and cook until the rice and daal has soften. Keep checking the water while the khichuri cooks and add more if it begins to dry.
Once done, add green chilli, coriander leaves and add the ghee on top.
