Desi Chana Dal Khichuri

This aromatic khichuri is a quick and easy recipe to make on a perfect cold night


Ingredients:

2 tbsp ghee

½ tsp cumin

2 cinnamon sticks

2 bay leaves

8-10 peppers

3 cloves

3 dry red chilies

3 cardamoms

1 medium onion

1 tsp garlic paste

1 tsp ginger paste

1 small tomato

1 1.4 tsp salt

¼ tsp turmeric

1 cup split chickpeas

2 cups basmati rice

4 cups hot water

½ tsp garam masala

1 tsp ghee

2 tbsp fried onions



Instructions:

1. Add ghee in a large pot and stir in cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, peppers, cloves, dry red chilies, cardamoms, and sliced onions

2. Sauté until the onions are light brown

3. Mix in garlic and ginger paste

4. Add chopped tomatoes

5. Add salt to taste along with turmeric

6. Mix in split chickpeas that have been soaked for minimum of 4 hours

7. Fry the chickpeas for 2 minutes

8. Mix in soaked basmati rice

9. Pour in hot water and let it come to a boil

10. Add garam masala

11. Cover with lid and cook for 15 minutes on low heat

12. Uncover and add ghee

13. Garnish with fried onions

14. Ready to enjoy!
