This has become a family favorite chicken curry. Easy, and delicious every time!
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups chana dal
2 cups water
½ tsp salt
½ tsp turmeric
3 tbsp cooking oil
1 medium onion
2 bay leaves
3 dry red chilies
2 cinnamon sticks
5 cardamom
6 cloves
8-10 peppercorn
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp garlic paste
1 tbsp ginger paste
½ tsp red chili
½ tsp turmeric
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp salt
1 kg chicken
½ tsp garam masala
2 ½ cups hot water
½ tsp cumin
1 tsp ghee
2 tbsp fried onions
Instructions:
1. Soak chana dal for 30 minutes
2. Place chana in a pot along with water, salt to taste and turmeric
3. Cover with lid and cook for 15-17 minutes
4. Drizzle cooking oil in a large pot
5. Add thinly sliced onions, bay leaves, dry red chilies, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, cloves, peppercorn, and cumin seeds
6. Stir in garlic and ginger paste
7. Splash of water
8. Mix in red chili, turmeric, coriander, and salt
9. Saute for 2 minutes
10. Add curry cut chicken pieces and mix well
11. Cover with lid and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat
12. Saute until water evaporates for 2 minutes on high heat
13. Add in the cooked chana
14. Add garam masala, and pour in hot water
15. Cook for 15 minutes on low heat
16. Stir occasionally
17. Uncover and cook for another 10 minutes on medium to high heat
18. Garnish with roasted cumin, fried onions, and ghee
19. Ready to enjoy!
Can we use toor dal if we do not have chana dal?
