Pabda Fish In Mustard and Tomato Gravy

The pabda fish is a popular tasty delicacy in all Bangladeshi household.


Method one: Spiced Tomato Gravy


Ingredients:

3 tbsp cooking oil

½ cup red onion

½ cup onion paste

1 tsp salt

¾ tsp turmeric

1 tsp red chili

1 tbsp coriander

1 large tomato

5-6 pabda fish

½ cup green peas

1 cup hot water

½ tsp roasted cumin

4-5 green chilies

2 tbsp fresh coriander


Instructions:

1. Drizzle cooking oil in pan

2. Sauté thinly sliced onion in pan until light brown

3. Stir in onion paste

4. Add salt to taste, turmeric, red chili, and coriander

5. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes and add water as needed

6. Add chopped tomato and sauté for 2 minutes

7. Add a splash of water

8. Cover with lid and cook for 3 minutes on low heat

9. Uncover and place pabda fish in pan

10. Evenly distribute green peas

11. Pour in hot water

12. Cover with lid and cook for 5 minutes on low heat

13. Uncover and sprinkle cumin

14. Add green chilies

15. Garnish with fresh coriander

16. Serve with a bowl of rice on the side

17. Ready to Enjoy!


Method Two: Mustard Gravy


Ingredients:

5 pabda fish

2 tbsp mustard oil

¼ tsp nigella

2 dry red chilies

3 tbsp mustard

2 green chilies

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp red chili

¼ tsp turmeric

¼ tsp cumin

¾ cup hot water

3 green chilies

2 tbsp fresh coriander


Instructions:

1. Coat pabda fish with a pinch of salt and turmeric

2. Add mustard oil and fry the fish on each side for 50 seconds with the lid on

3. Remove the fish from heat

4. Add nigella to a pan along with dry red chilies, and mustard paste

5. Pour in a splash of water

6. Add salt to turmeric, red chili, and cumin

7. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes

8. Another splash of water and a pinch of salt and sugar to taste

9. Pour in hot water

10. Add green chilies and place the fish back in pan

11. Cover with lid and cook for 4 minutes

12. Garnish with fresh coriander

13. Ready to Enjoy!
