Homemade Bomboloni (Italian Donuts)

This Italian donuts recipe is perfect for a quick weekend treat and it's always sure to satisfy those sweet tooth cravings


½ cup lukewarm milk

1 tsp active dry yeast

2 tbsp butter

1 tbsp sugar

½ tsp salt

1 whole egg

1 egg yolk

2 cups plain flour

1.5 cups milk

½ cup sugar

1 tbsp vanilla extract

¼ cup cornstarch

3 egg yolks

½ cup milk

1 tbsp butter

½ cup sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon


1. In a bowl, add lukewarm milk, active dry yeast, butter, sugar, salt and egg

2. Mix in plain flour

3. Knead a smooth soft dough

4. Saranwrap and let it rise for 1 hour

5. Add cornstarch in a bowl along with egg yolks and milk

6. Whisk well and set aside

7. Pour milk in a pot, stir in in sugar, vanilla extract and the cornstarch egg yolk mixture

8. Cook over medium heat

9. Stir in butter then remove from heat and let it cool and refrigerate for 1 hour

10. Cut dough into 12 pieces and transfer onto a baking glassware to rise

11. Deep fry until golden brown on medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes

12. Coat the donut in sugar and cinnamon

13. Insert filling before serving

14. Ready to enjoy!
